Summary: certain character logs out jabber

Initial Comment:
I have tried this on two different jabber servers (but
only with one client) so I suspect that it is a problem
with the client.

I tried to copy and paste the output of a program into
gaim, when I click send I get the
message "myuser@myserver has been disconnected"...ok
try again...nope same thing.

I eventually located the culprit to be a character that
was displaying as one of those rectangles: ""...I
viewed the output in a hex editor and found out that the
character is 0x08

Important bits of software:
Windows XP Pro
Gaim v0.78

This may well be a bug in the Jabber server, or a bug in our
jabber support.  I can't find anything that says a backspace
character is illegal, but I could be mistaken.

well seeing as gaim would use gtk to grab the input from me
pressing ctrl+v i would expect that that is a gtk problem

it appears he is pasting from a wide variety of places, that
doesn't sound exactly like a gtk bug to me...

well i just copied and pasted:
from the first bug report ^^
into my current gaim 1.1.0 (nfi what gtk version) and it
logged out.

also if i copy and paste this paragraph it logs it out.

as for where it came from: a friend was helping me with
gentoo, i copied some text from the output of the emerge
command ( i can't remember if i output it too a file first
though).

atm i don't have a working gentoo install to reproduce this
though.

where is this being pasted from? can you tell what
character? i don't have enough detail here to submit a gtk
bug unfortunately. we need to give the gtk guys some whay to
reproduce this.

I'm willing to bet this is a glib/gtk bug.

Jabber connections are utf8-only.  If we send anything else,
or receive anything else, the stream is corrupt, and we have
to close it.

If what you're pasting is making it into gaim as non-utf8,
then that's a glib/gtk bug, because everything we get from
there should be valid utf8.
